Day 29 – Meditation on Death
Our meditation today consists of two parts of a classic nine-point meditation on death that gets to the very heart of the matter, impermanence, which can be a rough concept to swallow. We live in a world that is constantly changing and most of the suffering that we experience is in our desire to keep things the same, especially ourselves. The more we become comfortable with, and accept the impermanence of life, the less we suffer.
This meditation will heighten your awareness of the impermanence of life and the reality of death. Use it as a tool to sharpen your optimism that we have every possibility to make our lives meaningful. By doing this, we are more able to stay in the present, and make the most of our lives while we can.
“I died as mineral and became plant, I died as plant and rose to animal, I died as animal and became man. Why should I fear? When was I less by dying? Yet once more I will die as man to soar with angels blessed, but even from angelhood I must pass on.” ~Rumi
